The IEEE 11073 Service-oriented Device Connectivity (SDC) family of standards defines a communication protocol for medical devices whose area of application is in (potentially) critical patient care, such as the operating room, intensive care unit, but also in other areas of the hospital. IEEE 11073 SDC focuses on manufacturer-independent device-to-device communication. In this regard, the family of standards aims at the interoperability of medical device systems and enables multipoint-to-multipoint information exchange.
